Garage Doors in Clarington, OntarioRoom for a lift, room to breathe.

A high-lift conversion raises the door's horizontal track toward the ceiling, freeing the space above a car for a hoist or storage. We rework the tracks, drums and springs for the new travel and fit a jackshaft opener beside the door.

From the shop

From broken spring to smooth door.

Glass doors need a level opening, solid framing and precise track alignment, because any twist shows in the glass lines. We check the header and jambs, set the tracks carefully and adjust the balance for the door's weight, which differs from a steel door of the same size. The result is a door that looks as sharp as it did in the showroom.

Service for every door

Whether you have a single steel door on a bungalow or a row of rolling doors on a warehouse, the services here apply. Browse by what you noticed, or by the part you suspect, and you will find how we handle it.

Repairs

Repair & Maintenance

The bottom seal, the side and top weatherstrip, and the threshold at the floor are the door's defence against wind, water and snow. Renewing them is quick work and makes a real difference to how the garage feels in January.

Springs

Springs & Hardware

Torsion and extension springs, lift cables, drums and bearings. When any of these wears, the opener strains and the door becomes unpredictable.

  1. Steel and nylon garage-door rollers with long stems lie beside a detached hinge on a workbench. — Garage Door Roller Replacement, Clarington
Garage Door Roller ReplacementA roller near the top corner is riding on the lip of the track rather than inside it, and the section above leans back a little more each week. The door still moves, but it looks one bump away from coming out altogether.
  2. Gloved hands holding two metal garage-door hinges side by side, one discolored with a visible crack and the other bright silver. — Garage Door Hinge Replacement, Clarington
Garage Door Hinge ReplacementAfter a cold night the bottom seal had frozen to the slab. The opener strained, something gave, and now one of the upper hinges sits with its leaf bent outward and the panel below it flexes when the door moves.
  3. Gloved hands holding a vertical garage-door track and a wrench at its mounting bracket beside a door hinge. — Garage Door Track Repair or Replacement, Clarington
Garage Door Track Repair or ReplacementBacking out this morning, the mirror caught the track beside the door. Now there is a crease in the steel at about knee height, and the door stops with a bang every time a roller reaches it.
  4. Two coiled steel cables with loop and stop ends on a workbench. — Garage Door Cable Replacement, Clarington
Garage Door Cable ReplacementThere was a sharp crack from the garage, and when you went to look the door had dropped on one side and jammed. A length of cable lies coiled on the floor by the bottom roller.
  5. Detached black coil spring with metal end fittings on a workbench. — Torsion Spring Replacement, Clarington
Torsion Spring ReplacementThe door starts to rise, gets about the height of your knee, then shudders and reverses. The opener sounds strained, and the top section flexes as the trolley pulls on it, because the motor is doing work the spring used…
  6. Two coiled extension springs with looped ends, two black pulleys and a loop of steel cable on a worn wooden workbench. — Extension Spring Replacement, Clarington
Extension Spring ReplacementA bang like a dropped toolbox came from the garage last night. This morning one of the long springs beside the track hangs in two pieces, and the door will only rise a few inches before the opener gives up and stops.
  7. A person stands beside a closed sectional door beneath its overhead spring assembly. — Garage Door Balance Adjustment, Clarington
Garage Door Balance AdjustmentSomeone replaced the springs a while back and the door has bounced at the top ever since. It slams open against the stops, then creeps down a few inches, and the opener trolley rattles because the door is pushing where…

Garage Door Opener Replacement

You want the ceiling back. A storage loft, a vehicle lift or kayak racks would fit if the long rail and motor box were not hanging in the middle of the garage, and the low ceiling of an older house leaves little room for the standard rail anyway.

Which fix fits?

The remote only works when you are almost in the driveway. The usual fix

UsuallyBattery, antenna and interference check.

WhyA weak battery or a tucked-away antenna wire shortens range; some LED bulbs in the opener can also interfere.

The outside keypad lights up but the door ignores it.The usual fix

UsuallyKeypad reprogramming.

WhyThe code has likely dropped out of the opener's memory; re-pairing brings it back.

You have moved in and there are no remotes at all.The usual fix

UsuallyOpener memory reset and new remotes.

WhyWe erase every old code so previous owners' remotes stop working, then program yours.

The motor runs, you can hear it working, but the door never moves. The usual fix

UsuallyChain-Drive Opener Repair

WhySometimes nothing is broken and the operator has simply forgotten where the door should stop.

How a visit goes

Trade guidance treats a garage door as a system: sections, hinges, rollers, tracks, cables, springs and opener all depend on one another, and an impact on one section rarely stops there. That is why a section replacement includes checking what the damage did to everything connected to it.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 27%Newer homes

About 27% of homes in Clarington were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In newer areas the garage doors along a street often share a style and colour, and homeowners generally want a replacement that blends in. We match panel profiles and finishes closely, or help you choose a deliberate change that still sits comfortably with the neighbours.

  • 78%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 78% of homes in Clarington (2021 Census).

Detached houses often have a room over the garage, a bedroom or an office, which makes the garage door part of the heated envelope. An insulated door, snug weatherstrip and a fresh bottom seal keep that room comfortable and the furnace from working overtime in winter.

Does a new section bring back the door's original strength?

A section ordered to the same specification carries the same steel gauge, core and reinforcement as the original, and it is fitted with sound hinges, new fasteners and, where the design calls for it, a strut. Combined with the alignment and balance work done at the same time, the door returns to operating the way its manufacturer designed it to. Where an original section had bowed for want of a strut, adding one leaves that part stiffer than before.

Why is the bottom section handled differently from the others?

The bottom section is where the lift cables attach, through the bottom brackets at each end, and those cables are under the full pull of the springs. Before the brackets come off, the springs have to be unwound or unhooked so the cables go slack. The bottom section also carries the seal retainer and astragal that meet the floor. After the new section is in, the springs are re-tensioned and the balance reset.

Does changing a section affect the springs or balance?

It can. A new section may be a little heavier or lighter than the old one, particularly if insulation, glazing or a strut differs, and the springs are set for the door's actual weight. After the exchange the technician lifts the door by hand with the opener disconnected and adjusts the spring tension until it holds steady at mid-height. On a bottom-section job the springs are unloaded and reloaded as part of the work anyway.

Can I keep using the opener until the technician arrives?

The kindest thing for the door is to leave it where it is and use another entrance. An opener is designed to move a door the springs have already made light; asking it to lift a full-weight door strains the trolley and gear drive and can crease the top section. Keeping the door still and clear of people until the spring is replaced protects the rest of the system from extra repairs.

The opener light blinks when I press close. Is that the sensors?

Very often, yes. A blinking bulb after a close command is the opener reporting that its sensor circuit is unhappy, and the count of blinks is the message: one common family uses ten flashes for the sensors, while a short two-flash pattern usually means the wall control's lock button is on. Newer units add arrow codes that separate a blocked beam from a cut or reversed wire. Counting the flashes and telling the technician the make helps identify the cause before the visit.
